Tour

11 gruodžio, 2024 15:00 - 17:00

25€

This is the second cultural heritage site opened to the public by Art Deco Museum founders Karolis Banis and Petras Gaidamavičius, and is today the home of the Amsterdam School Museum.

The Experiential Tour is a profound 2-hour storytelling event that merges history with the present, with elements of drama, performance, smell and even taste. Don't be surprised, you will be treated to a tour because you are our guests!

A chic First Republic of Lithuania-era, deep-coloured, subtly gold-decorated urban interior: 140 sqm apartment with 2 balconies and a huge terrace facing the slopes of Žaliakalnis.

The experiential tour will give you a taste of the optimism of the country's hard-working, entrepreneurial young people and their desire to create prosperity in their homeland.

The interior is decorated with valuable works of art by Lithuanian authors. The rooms are full of valuable crockery, books, design treasures, furniture and even household appliances from interwar Lithuania.

In 2023, this valuable architecture, created by the hands of the Lithuanian population, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Jewish citizens of Lithuania contributed greatly to the growth and progress of the First Republic of Lithuania and to the architecture that has remained so appreciated to this day. During the tour, you will learn about the people who lived in this house and their complicated fates during the war.

It is the only building in Lithuania built in the style of the Amsterdam School architecture and dates back to 1928.The owners of the house, Moses Posvianskis and Giršas Klis, wanted to give Lithuania a unique facade, unusual for our region at that time. Their dream was realised by Kaunas architect Jokūbas Peras. The architectural style of the Amsterdam School originated in the Netherlands. The facades are characterised by unique sculpture, colour palette, segmented windows and expressive sculptures.

Queer theory is used to help explain the mannered sculptures that adorn the building.

Finally, you will see the power of restoration, because not so long ago it was an abandoned social housing for up to three families, and before the restoration, the rooms of this museum were featured in the most successful HBO series of all time, Chernobyl (the apartment of the protagonist V. Legasov).
